Global 2020 Design Forecast

Our design experts transverse the globe collaborating with forecasters, designers and architects. Each year the culmination of their work is the focus during Gerflor Design Days. The work shared with each country places creativity and innovation at the core of every range we have on offer.

FOLK

The Folk trend is one of contrasts. The perfect mix may emerge from the most unexpected combinations. Mix classic furniture with whimsical accessories for a refreshing living room or bedroom. Combine the design of a straight-line sofa with the curvature of a deeply padded cozy armchair.

Accentuate a classic coffee table with ornate pressed metal. Style interiors and el-fresco areas with a variety of influences, crochet rugs, Bendigo Pottery or hand-made crafts dating back to pioneers and ancient cultures. Bring history and culture into the home in ways which evoke memories and comfort by layering flooring with texture and patterns and combining the classic with the historical or rustic.

For flooring each choice is anchored in the bohemian spirit, with planks of a raw appearance and aged as though covered with lime, or washed by the salt of a nearby ocean. Global Artistic Director Gino Venturelli recognises the playful core of this trend based on layering patterns and textures and instructs stylists to “Play mix & match!

The patterns of the Folk trend are weathered by time. They offer, in contrast, a perfect setting in a very contemporary environment, playing on the breach with abstract or graphic designs”.

NEW DADA

Gerflor Global’s Artistic Director Gino Venturelli introduces New Dada as ‘a retro style that belongs to the past but is looking to the future in an elevated aspirational way.’ Copper and gold replace stainless steel. Velvet takes over from leather in this opulent style where glamour intertwines with youthful energy and optimism. What we love about New Dada is the way it fits in so neatly to existing décor’ and connects the stylist in all of us instantly with this HOT 2020 retro look.

Dew Dada delivers a masterful juxtaposition of extremes to achieve graphic contrasts and visual shocks. Daring Haute Couture brings mastery and sophistication with graphic influences and oversized formats. The contemporary black and white palette welcomes new influences of delicate pink and luxurious fabrics to give eye-catching retro wow factor to the room.

Tap into the timeless nobility of black marble then introduce touches of soft luxury with on-trend pink, coral and sky coloured textiles. Senso by Gerflor flooring can cater to this trend at either end of the colour spectrum. For a softer ‘pink’ select Essentials 2M wide Roll Vinyl in “Matera Crema“, or for a dark base select Senso Urban self-adhesive planks in “Blacktech” available in 914 x 152mm in a box of 16 planks to cover 2.20m2.

NATURELAND

NATURELAND throws the doors open and invites us to welcome the sun and fresh air into our harsh urbanised environment.

Generous by nature and characterised by crazy whims, this trend sets you dreaming about a garden, a balcony or terrace, a walk in the square or stroll around the park.

Environmental cues lead a drive to recycle and repurpose resources highlighting eco responsibility, ethical decoration and ‘greener’ approach to creativity.

The central material of this trend? Wood, on the floor, in furniture and objects. Associated with other noble materials, such as leather, copper, marble and metal, through decorative objects and lighting, this live painting offers subtle and elegant contrasts, for a soft and serene atmosphere.

Geometric

The digital age has brought with it a focus on all things ‘linked’.  Angles are cool again. The straight line, repeated, albeit in creative ways is, at the same time, a measured nod to all things artistic and ‘uncontrolled’. It is a modern trend that cleverly links everything new with everything known in ways that invite engagement and intrigue.
